Vernon Family Resource Centre's LBGTQ+ Caregiver's Peer Group

The Vernon Family Resource Centre is hosting a series of meetings for parents, guardians and others who are supporting their own children, other teens, family, and friends in the rainbow community. The group will meet on the second Wednesday every month. The first meeting is on Wednesday May 12, and will be held on a Zoom call. At some point in the future (the near future, we hope!) meetings will be in person.

If you want to sign up, or if you have questions, you can contact the Family Resource Centre at register@vernonfrc.ca - they will be happy to hear from you and to provide the answers!

The Okanagan Learning Foundation is delighted to have been able to support this initiative, and grateful to our generous sponsors from across British Columbia.

During a time of layoff waves, reduced work hours and job loss, one local organization is helping fill the bellies of Vernon high school students.

Last week, Castanet News published an interview with the Foundation’s Executive Director, Stephanie Hewson. You can read the article here.

The Foundation’s ability to keep our programs running during the pandemic is yet another testament to the donors, volunteers and teachers that support us every day.

Bringing German to Okanagan Students!

I had the absolute honour of receiving a bursary from the Okanagan Learning Foundation to help with my professional development. I am a language teacher and love sharing my passion with my students. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to teach on of my favourite languages, German, in recent years. I wanted to teach it again at my school and put in a course request. Happily, the class was full and I would be teaching it at my school.
