A grant from the Okanagan Learning Foundation helped Mr. Al Gee’s Social Studies 11 class travel from Fulton Secondary School to Vancouver, where they learned about how the economy can shift toward green energy. One of Mr. Gee’s students sent us this note:
Thank you so very much for your generosity in helping fund our classes learning trip to the coast. While in Vancouver we all gained immense knowledge on green energy and how our generation can benefit from a green switch. We travelled to many green energy companies that welcomed us with open arms and were excited to educate us such as Happy city, Tesla, Modo, and many more. Students were really invested in what these companies stood for and that was evident in the questions they asked and the conversations that were discussed afterwards. One of my favourite things about this trip was broadening my horizons on job opportunities in developing green energy. Also in Vancouver we got to get around the town in every way possible except a car. We travelled by bus, skytrain, boat, mobi bikes, and walking, it really showed us that we don’t need a vehicle to get ourselves around. Something I’ve learnt from this is that school gets exciting when we get to take what we learnt inside the classroom and see real world examples of it. Getting to go outside of the school and develop our knowledge gets students really thrilled. As a student myself I can openly say that without your help we might not have been able to make this happen, and I also want to make it very transparent how truly thankful everyone that was involved is. Thanks to you we had 3 days full of knowledge, new experiences, and bonding with our classmates. It was definitely a trip that none of us will ever forget.
